IT Program Outlook
The information technology industry is known to be one of the most popular and fast-growing fields around the world. With the rapid advancement and development in technology, there is an increase in the reliance on technology. To better accommodate this increasing demand, most businesses and organizations now require strong professionals with a knowledgeable background in Information Technology.
With the 21st century entering the age of computer networks, computer applications have become more advanced and investment in computer networks can be commonly found. More and more brands are looking to expand in the information technology industry because of the immense amount of potential. It was reported that between 2018 and 2019, Canada’s Information Technology spending grew by 4.9%. This is three times faster than the country’s overall economic growth.
The new generation of computers has integrated the network interface on the motherboard, and the network function has been embedded in the operating system. The construction of the intelligent building has been constructed at the same time, at the same place, and with the same plan as the computer network wiring. With the close integration and simultaneous development of communication and computer technology, computer network technology has developed rapidly. Along with the rapid development of the industry is the increasing need for employers. There is currently a demand for these workers with emphasis on cloud computing, the collection and storage of big data, and information security.
According to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the employment in computer and information technology occupations is projected to grow 11% from 2019 to 2029. Occupations such as Computer Programmers, Network and Computer Systems Administrators, and Software Developers are expected to add about 531,200 new jobs. Following the U.S. News & World Report, software developer has been ranked as the #1 Best Technology Job in America for two consecutive years.
With attaining an in-depth knowledge of computer systems and having prior experience being so important among employees, many programs now offer co-op options for students. In Canada, the majority of the Information Technology Programs will provide an opportunity for students to complete optional work terms in a formal work environment during the academic year. Through a co-op education, students will be familiar with the Information Technology industry and attain hands-on work experience upon graduating.
